During the afternoon, I came across a Facebook ad promoting Lucky Coffee’s RM2.99 promo for first-time orders. Luckin Coffee (瑞幸咖啡) is a Chinese coffee company and coffeehouse chain founded in Beijing in 2017. Now, it has finally arrived in Malaysia, with its first branch in Sunway Pyramid. As a digital marketer, I always support Facebook ads and take the opportunity to try them out as part of the user experience. To redeem the promo, simply download the Luckin Coffee Malaysia app, register as a member, and you’ll see a RM2.99 promo displayed as a red packet, resembling an angpao, for your first drink.
I decided to try one of their bestsellers, the Coconut Latte, which can be paid for using Touch ‘N Go eWallet. When I placed my order at 1:19 PM, the app showed that my order would be ready around 3:26 PM—more than two hours later!
That was fine with me, as I planned to have lunch at Sunway Pyramid using my Sunway Pay as a Sunway Super App member. Upon arriving at the mall, I passed by the Luckin Coffee outlet and was pleasantly surprised to see that my order’s wait time had been reduced by an hour. The app now indicated I could collect my drink at 2:28 PM by showing the QR code.
The outlet was packed with customers, and their counter was filled with orders.
Despite the crowd, the Coconut Latte exceeded my expectations—it was delicious! I’d definitely buy it again if they offer a similar promo in the future.
At RM14 per cup without the promo, it’s priced similarly to Starbucks (the OG) and competitors like Zus Coffee. Unfortunately, I missed the morning’s grand opening ceremony, but below are some pictures of the Luckin Coffee Malaysia outlet. Feel free to grab a drink today!
