Japan’s No.1 Sushi @ Sushiro Malaysia KLCC

During the afternoon, I made my way to Sushiro Malaysia at KLCC for their grand opening. As Japan’s No. 1 sales for sushi chain, Sushiro has finally arrived in Malaysia, bringing its world-class sushi craftsmanship to local food enthusiasts with its first branch here.

Upon arrival, I witnessed the ribbon-cutting ceremony, hosted by Yuumi Kato, a Japanese model, actress, and beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss Universe Japan 2018.

Anyway, I just found out that you need to book online via the Sushiro Malaysia app to dine in today.

However, if you didn’t reserve earlier, you can still walk in, which is what I did, and I got number 101.

I waited in their designated waiting area downstairs, and the wait time was almost 2 hours.

This is pretty common during grand openings, and I learned my lesson. Next time, I’ll book earlier!

The staff were friendly and explained in detail where to find the free green tea, soy sauce, utensils, and how to order using the touch panel below.

As part of the grand opening celebration, they’re offering Ootoro (大トロ) for just RM5.80 from today until the 23rd of February.

This is my favorite Japanese sushi dish and also one of the most luxurious in Japan, as it’s usually very expensive. I immediately ordered two pieces, which arrived via the conveyor belt.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Ootoro very much as it practically melted in my mouth. By the way, the correct way to eat sushi is to hold it at a 45-degree angle and dip the fish (not the rice) into the soy sauce.

In addition, I ordered their Chawanmushi as an appetizer and Udon as my main dish.

The Chawanmushi was worth it because it had scallop inside.

I also enjoyed other sushi options like red shrimp sushi, marinated sea urchin tsutsumi, and yellowtail (Hamachi) sushi, which you typically don’t find at regular sushi chain restaurants.

Since today was their grand opening, there was a 45-minute notification alert in the system, as dining time was limited.

So, I pressed the button to call the staff to tally the total bill. All the sushi plates are fitted with an IC chip to manage freshness and make counting easier with their device.

The total bill came to RM104.20, but after deducting the RM50 gift voucher, I paid RM62.87 after tax.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience dining at Sushiro Malaysia at KLCC. All their ingredients are carefully sourced from around the world to ensure the freshest and most authentic sushi experience. They even offer complimentary green tea, which is a nice touch, something commonly done in Japan. Currently, the restaurant is Muslim-friendly, with no pork or lard served, and offers over 100 varieties of dishes to choose from. I’ll definitely be back to try the black plate sushi, which I skipped this time since it’s a bit pricey.

But hey, good things are worth saving for next time, right?

Feel free to watch my first attempt at video editing. I always tell myself it’s never too late to learn new things, and here’s my experience at Sushiro Malaysia KLCC below.
