During the night, I decided to try out a new mobile app called “Cari Makan” (揾到食), which I had just downloaded to find food near me in the KL area, Malaysia. There’s a section called “Free Meal,” where you can actually get free meals either with a purchase or even without one, as shown below.

I found the nearest restaurant on the app, and Ne.Nenebubu TomYum World Thai Restaurant was one of the options. The promo available was “Free 1 main dish & drink per table,” so I drove to the location, which was just an 8-minute drive from my place.

When I arrived, there were quite a few people sitting outside, but I decided to sit inside. I asked the boss if the promo from Cari Makan was legitimate, and he confirmed it was. He then asked his staff to scan the QR code (Important: don’t click the “View” button unless you’re there, as it starts a 2-hour 30-minute countdown, and the QR tab will disappear).

The staff told me I could choose any meal from the menu and any drink, except for the desserts highlighted in blue.

After browsing the menu, I decided to try their Signature Nut Geng Som with tiger prawns as my meal and a Thai coconut drink as my beverage. The food was served within 15 minutes, and I really enjoyed it.

The Thai flavors were authentic, and the prawns were slightly bigger than medium size. I would rate the meal 8 out of 10 stars.
Even though the meal was free, I asked the staff to print the bill for reference, showing that the actual price would have been RM26.80 without the free meal promo.

This wasn’t my first time having lunch or dinner here, but it was my first time enjoying a completely free meal with no minimum spend. Indeed, I am grateful for today’s free meal, and the feeling is similar to farming an airdrop in web3. Out of curiosity, I asked the boss why they offered free meals. He explained that it was a collaboration with the Cari Makan team and limited to 100 vouchers, as indicated on the app, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Overall, the experience was great. This restaurant is authentically Thai, and they also sell a variety of Thai groceries, making it a unique spot to explore.
