We celebrated a birthday and Christmas dinner at Yat Sing Smokehouse, located in Salak South. Situated near condominiums as an end-lot shop, parking options include the lane beside the shop or circling around a few times to find a spot. The shop has been open for approximately six months. Its exterior is simple, giving little indication that it’s a Western smokehouse specializing in BBQ ribs, meats, and more. Seating is quite limited, but the restaurant is air-conditioned, and the kitchen is enclosed, ensuring there’s no lingering smoke smell. The menu is straightforward, with just two pages.
We ordered one set of Ribelly, which consisted of three ribs, some pork belly, two honey biscuits, and two large sides—we chose mashed potatoes and coleslaw.
Additionally, we tried their Pork Chili Nachos and the Pulled Pork Slider, which came with steak fries and three pork sliders. For drinks, we had Iced Lemon Tea, Lemongrass and Pandan Tea, and Honey Lemon.
The Ribelly set was okay for us. While it’s advertised as suitable for 2-3 people, the portion felt small for our group of three (two males and one female). Even for a couple, you might consider adding an extra side dish. In terms of taste, the pork belly was the star—tender and flavorful. The honey biscuits were another highlight, reminiscent of Texas Chicken but larger and fluffier. I didn’t check if these biscuits were sold separately, but I’d definitely order a few extra. The coleslaw and mashed potatoes were quite good, flavorful, and clearly homemade. The ribs, however, were less impressive—not as tender as those at Morganfield’s. I detected a hint of cinnamon in the seasoning, which was interesting but didn’t quite elevate the dish.
The Pork Chili Nachos were generously portioned, loaded with cheese, pulled pork, guacamole, and sour cream, served with plain nachos that paired well with the condiments.
Next were the Pulled Pork Sliders. These were juicy and tasty, though the flavor of the pulled pork itself was slightly overpowering. The pickles that accompanied them helped balance the richness. The steak fries were also enjoyable—crispy and well-seasoned.
As for the drinks, they were unremarkable despite their fancy names. The Lemongrass and Pandan Tea, for example, tasted quite ordinary.
The only notable downside was the seating, which was slightly uncomfortable. Overall, Yat Sing Smokehouse offers good food and great service, making it a worthwhile visit.
