Around 6AM this morning, I started feeling hungry after working through the night. So, I googled for nearby restaurants and discovered Restoran Joo Hing at OUG, just a 6-minute drive from my location. It’s a relief to know there are options for food even after working late into the night—like my previous post about 5AM Bak Kut Teh in KL.
When I arrived, their famous prawn noodles weren’t ready yet, so I opted for the Wantan Mee and a set of half-boiled eggs as my “breakfast.” The Wantan Mee tasted alright to me and was priced at RM8.50, while two half-boiled eggs cost RM3.80—something that caught my eye from a banner displayed in the restaurant.
After eating, I took a stroll around Taman Overseas Union (OUG) and discovered a lively morning “pasar pagi” (morning market). It was bustling, with many people already hard at work as early as 6AM.
I ended up buying bananas for RM2 and three pieces of sweet corn (claimed to be from Cameron Highlands) for just RM5.
I skipped the whole chicken being sold for RM15, thinking it might be more worth it to grab 5 pieces of KFC chicken during their promo period instead.
The total expenditure for this morning’s breakfast was RM15. Imagine if the average daily spending is RM45 for three meals—that would mean monthly food expenses alone would cost around RM1,400+ if all meals are eaten outside instead of being home-cooked.
Overall, I’m grateful for this little morning adventure at Joo Hing. I’ll definitely return for another meal in the future. It does feel like I’m living a semi-retired lifestyle, enjoying the moment at 35, if I were to continue this same lifestyle and make it to 80+. Anyways, I’ll still be paying off my house loan commitment until I reach 70 years old before it’s fully paid off.
