During the night, I stumbled upon the FavePay app and noticed a new feature: eCards. While browsing through the app, I came across a 50% off promotion for Rain Cafe and decided to give it a try by purchasing their eCard.
Using Waze, I drove to the cafe and discovered it was located at Centrestage Petaling Jaya. It took me a while to find the exact location, but I eventually realized it’s on the ground floor near the Hee Lai Ton Restaurant (喜来登) Level 5 sign when the lift opens.
Initially, I expected the cafe to have a cozy ambiance, but it turned out to be more like a regular hawker stall or mamak vibes.
I ended up ordering a basic rice meal with curry chicken, potatoes, and fried chicken, as shown below.
The taste was just average for me—more like a “survival meal.” That said, you could get a meal for under RM5 if you skip the fried chicken and use the promo. Overall, I’d rate this experience 5 out of 10 stars. Perhaps I didn’t check the other menu options after being seated, as shown below.
The final bill came to RM9 after deducting RM10 from the cashback amount included with the RM5 eCard purchase.
Overall, my experience with FavePay was just okay. It gave off a slight “you pay peanuts, you get monkeys” vibe when paying such a low price here. On the other hand, if FavePay is used in higher-standard living areas like Sri Petaling, the prices are often slightly marked up, similar to my previous experience at Ginza Sushi in Sri Petaling.
On the bright side, this kind of dining could serve as good training for periods of financial constraint (低谷期). It’s a way to bounce back when you’re in “survival mode,” as the saying goes: “Do you eat to live, or live to eat?”
