50% Off Promo After 8:30pm @ 23 Mixed Rice

After a tough morning at Brickfields, dealing with some “banking-related stuff” for a few hours, I decided to grab some mixed rice for lunch on my way home. While driving along Old Klang Road, I remembered a mixed rice shop I quite like—23 Mixed Rice Restaurant.

Upon arriving, I chose a few dishes: salted fish, steamed egg custard, and some vegetables. I felt worth it since the meal cost less than RM10. Considering the rising cost of living in KL, getting a meal for under RM10 is quite rare these days.

While I was eating, a 60+ year-old aunty approached me to sell Yakult. At first, I wasn’t interested when she spoke to me at the entrance. But when she approached me again at my table, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her, still needing to work at her age. Since I drink Yakult regularly for its probiotics, I decided to buy some from her. She mentioned that buying four packs would let me join a lucky draw and get free angpao.

Initially, I hesitated because I wasn’t sure I could finish 20 bottles before they expired. However, the aunty kindly helped me pick bottles with an expiry date over 20 days away—enough time to finish one bottle a day. In the end, I bought 4 packs of Yakult Ace Light (5 x 80ml) for RM21.60.

Remember to key in her Yakult Lady ID: HD1049 if you ever buy from her when submit the lucky draw at https://yakult.com.my. It serves as proof that she works there. I’m not sure if she earns any commission, but it’s definitely tough for her to be working at this age.

Later that night, I returned to 23 Mixed Rice Restaurant for their 50% off promo after 8:30 PM. By the time I arrived around 9 PM, the options were limited, but I still managed to get a decent selection.

My meal originally cost RM13, but with the discount, I paid just RM6.50.

I noticed other customers packing “tapao-ing” two meals with just two dishes each for as low as RM5 per pax after 50% off discounts. If you’re a night owl, this is perfect—you can keep one meal in the fridge and have it as supper later, say around 3 AM. Imagine spending just RM10 on food for both lunch and dinner, RM5 for two meals and RM2 for a simple breakfast like Yakult and biscuits. Your monthly food cost in KL could be below RM400!

Honestly, I think it’s brilliant how the restaurant manages to avoid food waste while offering affordable meals. Most of the food is sold out by 9:15 PM. Overall, I’d definitely come back to 23 Mixed Rice Restaurant again. It’s famous for its budget-friendly mixed rice, and it’s truly worth it!
