30% Off Huatever @ TAI ER The Exchange TRX

During the evening, I went to IKEA Cheras for some window shopping. Somehow, I ended up using Grab’s Huatever CNY Deals for GrabPay users and noticed Tai Er was featured first on their homepage under the Dineout offers. They had an extra 30% off promo with the CNYWEEKEND code, as shown below.

After a quick Google search, I found the nearest Tai Er outlet was at TRX Exchange, just a short distance from IKEA Cheras. It has been a month since I last visited TRX Exchange, after celebrating my birthday with an omakase set at Sushi Kita TRX. I made a reservation for one person using Google’s partner Inline app directly from the website.

When I arrived around 5 PM, I asked the staff if I could dine in earlier than my reservation time, which was set for 6:15 PM. To my surprise, they said it was fine. It seems like reservations are just an added convenience since you can walk in if it’s not too crowded.

The atmosphere was pleasant and lively, with quite a crowd already present.

There was also a promo where you could get a free angpao if you liked their Facebook or Xiao Hong Shu page. They had three designs to choose from, and I picked the one I liked most.

Browsing their menu, I noticed their signature “Suancai Fish” (sour vegetable fish) cost RM108, which serves 2–3 people.

Unfortunately, there was no single-portion option. I decided to order it anyway, planning to pack the leftovers if I couldn’t finish. On the bright side, their drinks were free, self-service, and customizable. You could mix dried tangerine and roselle with hot water and enjoy unlimited refills.

The food arrived within 15 minutes, accompanied by a cheerful “cheers” moment when it was served.

The sour vegetable fish met my expectations—it was delicious! I’d rate it 8 out of 10 stars. As expected, the portion was too large for one person, so I asked the waiter to help me pack the leftovers.

Fun fact: their tissues are free, and I only realized later that I could have taken some from the drawer earlier—lesson learned, haha.

One thing I think Tai Er TRX could improve is by offering free rice with unlimited refills, which would definitely help boost sales. The actual bill came to RM128.76 after tax.

However, with Grab’s Huatever CNY promo (20% + 30% off, capped at RM20, on weekends), I only paid RM83.01, as shown below.

Later that night, I took out the leftovers and realized I could split them into another meal.

I reheated the leftover Tai Er fish and paired it with Ajinomoto prawn rice, the prawns I bought from NSK Kuchai Lama, and Beutea drinks from Sri Petaling.

Overall, I’d definitely return to Tai Er, especially if they have another round of promos. For just RM83, I managed to stretch the meal into three portions, making it about RM27.60 per meal—perfect for a single person like me! =)
